In the past year, we’ve seen a tremendous level of interest from families and friends of Special
Olympics Missouri. These neighbors of ours – many of whom are struggling in a challenging
economy – are hungrier than ever for information about autism-spectrum disorders, Down syndrome
and other mental disabilities affecting SOMO athletes.
They’re also interested in SOMO’s ability to continue making a positive impact on the thousands
of lives we touch each day.

We created the SOMO Endowment Fund a few years ago to ensure that Special Olympics Missouri
remains well equipped to change the lives of thousands of Missourians each year who are
challenged with mental disabilities. With your support, we can do it.
Our Endowment Fund will ensure that opportunities for fitness and recreation continue to benefit
all athletes. Already, Special Olympics Healthy Athletes program is bringing medical, dental
and vision screenings to athletes at selected
state competitions. It is our hope to bring
these Healthy Athletes programs to all the
over 15,000 athletes in the coming years.
Our program recently expanded to include
Young Athletes (ages 3-8) and has seen encouraging
results with these youngsters. And the value of social opportunities
through Special Olympics helps our athletes make an impact in their
families and communities.
If your life has been touched by Special Olympics, and you want to give
back, the SOMO Endowment Fund is a great place to start. You can make a
direct contribution or a deferred (“planned”) gift with anything that is of
value to you – property, life insurance, stocks, or even an IRA. You can
create an annuity that produces income for you and reduces your taxes. Or
you can name SOMO Endowment Fund in your will and leave a legacy that
lives on to enrich the lives of our wonderful athletes.
